Engineering and Craftsmanship

Critical units require skilled engineering and craftsmanship to design, select and install the refractory linings necessary to maximize reliability and minimize life cycle refractory costs.

Thorpe combines experiences gained as both an engineering company and from the field as a refractory contractor. Through our refractory maintenance activities we work with multiple models of equipment from a range of OEMs. We evaluate the performance of various material selections and installation techniques under differing operational conditions. Therefore we understand what works.

With this knowledge, our engineers apply these results and incorporate the best options into our recommendations and new designs. Thorpe customizes the design to address operating conditions for severe conditions such as high temperatures, high pressures, reducing atmospheres, corrosive environments, thermal shock and severe abrasion.

Working closely with our customers’ engineering, inspection and maintenance departments we solve refractory and insulation problems. We recommend improved linings, provide schedule and cost projections and produce the detailed construction drawings specific to each customer’s need.

Finally, Thorpe completes the turnkey project with experienced and skilled installation crews. This turnkey approach is a key to a safe, on time, on budget project while bringing improved reliability and refractory performance to the customer. We stand apart from our competitors with a reputation of completing projects safely, on time and within budget, while providing the highest standard of professionalism and customer satisfaction.
